There are four kinds of single black mothers and they are defined by their responsibilities and marital status. Denise Bolds breaks down the different things black women can, should, and must do when raising their sons virtually or literally alone. RAISING PRINCES TO BE KINGS takes you from preconception to high school graduation with integral steps on rearing a successful black man from a single-parented boy.
Bolds has written a "how to" guide for single mothers on raising little boys.  Many of the ideologies are good in theory but don't necessarily translate into the results without a male role model. Her examples of several "successful" black men raised by single mothers on the back cover is based on their financial standing. I have seen where some of the examples stated in interviews, having male interaction, was an important part of their success. I don't agree that little boys don't need male interaction; I do believe it holds several good practices for mothers to use while raising their children, regardless of race or gender.
