The keynote speaker is Jaycee Memminger, an advocate and Domestic Violence Survivor. Memminger will speak on the challenges of "Moving Beyond the Tears". Memminger's struggle with domestic violence and near fatal attack was featured on Fox 2 News. Last year's sold out event, is an indication of the growth and commitment of the Women's Fund. The Women's Fund committee will continue to focus on issues of domestic violence in their grant award decisions for 2011. The Fund previously partnered with Haven in an Abuse is Not Love campaign to provide information about assistance programs for women in abusive relationships. The Southeastern Michigan Assistance League was provided with Assault Survivor Kits for women. Partnerships this year will include: The Southfield Domestic Violence Group, the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan, and Southfield Public Schools. Through auctions and sponsorships that include Fifth Third Bank, Michigan First Credit Union, St. John Providence Hospital, Comerica Bank and Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer & Weiss, the fund will award grants to aid domestic violence victims. Women's Fund Chairperson Janie Fulton states, "Victims of sexual assault or abuse are often asked to provide their clothing for evidence. Assault Survivor Kits include new clothing and personal hygiene items, providing both a sense of dignity to the victim and an understanding that they are not alone." The goal of the Women's Fund is to mobilize philanthropy to meet the needs of those dealing with issues of domestic violence in Southfield and Lathrup Village. "The mission of the Southfield Community Foundation is to enhance the lives of those who live and work in the Southfield and Lathrup Village communities. We are proud to have the Women's Fund as part of our charitable funds", said Raquel R. Robinson, Executive Director. The cost of the 5th Annual Women's Fund Tea is $40.00.
