4th Annual “You Are the Gift” Conference for Girls to Confront Issues of Low Self-Esteem and Exposing Them to the Arts
DETROIT, Michigan (June 20, 2011) Witness lives change at the 4th Annual “You are the Gift Conference”. This special event will bring together about 400 girls, 11-16, to explore and celebrate self-esteem and confidence. The focus of this year’s conference is on the arts, i.e. modeling, singing, dancing, acting, poetry, and playing musical instruments. This exciting one-day event will take place at The Costick Center in Farmington Hills, MI. on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 9:00am-3pm.
Actress Kaira Akita, A woman of many talents, Kaira Akita is an accomplished comedic actress, style strategist, and an active leader in the community. Kaira is best known for her scene-stealing supporting roles in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married and The Family That Preys, as well as her starring role in the short-lived but critically acclaimed BET sitcom Somebodies. Off screen, Kaira owns and operates Viva Akita, a signature lifestyle brand that includes head-turning jewelry & apparel, creative styling solutions, and high impact personal & professional branding.
On Saturday from 9:00am - 3:00 pm the girls will attend empowering workshops, enjoy various artists displaying their talents and participate in competitions like karaoke and a dance contest. A continental breakfast and lunch is being provided and there will be giveaways and prizes. In addition, there will be raffle drawings for a chance to win a gift card to one of several popular restaurants, not to mention goodie bags filled with journals and beauty products for every girl!
The day’s MC will be the amazing Anqunette Jamison Sarfoh from Fox2 News. Numerous other inspirational women like award-winning poet, Rosemarie Wilson and one of Anita Baker’s background singers, Beth Griffith will also share their success stories.
