If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that financial catastrophe can strike at any time—and that most people aren’t prepared to handle the rainy days. In fact, a recent MetLife study showed that more than half of Americans live paycheck to paycheck—and these days, some of us feel lucky to have a paycheck at all!

Being married presents unique challenges when it comes to saving because it’s often true that opposites attract, and saving habits are no exception. Many times, one person tends to be a saver, while the other partner might be a bit more impulsive. The fact is, both sides of the marriage equation need to be united when it comes to financial issues, even if that means one person needs to be named the designated driver over the funds; otherwise, it will be difficult to save any money to finance your dreams.

Actress, Comedian Erica Watson, who hosted our Curves in Motion Fashion Showcase this year in Detroit, was recently a victim of public ridicule. On the show "Love that Girl" on TVOne, a photo of Erica was beheaded and used in a before and after photo prop for a mere punchline without her consent.     We can no longer sit idly by while the plus community is humiliated and berated on such a socially acceptable level. We have to send a clear messsage to TVOne and the producers of this show  and others that insensitive commentary and negative imagery will not be tolerated!  Voice your opinion to TVOne here. 12 Cheap First Date Ideas My husband and I celebrate our third wedding anniversary this week, and it's had me reminiscing about all the fun dates we've been on together through the years. We're both frugal people (for our anniversary date, my husband got a Groupon), and some of our best memories are dates where we didn't spend much money. I always smile when I remember those creative first dates that we went on, which set the tone for a fun and adventurous relationship. Never did the word "cheap" cross my mind on those early dates, even though they were unarguably inexpensive. We were too busy enjoying each other's company and having fun to think about money!
